The World 10K Bangalore is a road running competition for 10 kilometers which takes place in Bangalore every year. This competition was first held in 2008 and it takes place in late May. This year (2015) it is going to be held on 17th May. This competition is sponsored by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
The World 10K race starts at the Kanteerava stadium in Bangalore and loops several roads in Bangalore and finally ends in the same stadium. This race will feature some of the world’s best and fastest athletes taking the road on fire. World 10K Bangalore race event is organized by Procam International, a sport and leisure management firm, which also runs the Delhi and Mumbai half marathon. This is the eighth year since the race has stated and it has received incredible response among the people in the world. The best talented runners across India and thousands from the running group will be taking part in this event hosted by the Bangalore city.
Race categories
a) World 10K – This category is for International and National Athletes. It is a 10km run and the participants should be minimum 18 years of age.
b) Open 10K – This category is for amateur runners. It is a 10km run and the participants should be minimum 15 years of age.
c) Majja Run – This category is meant for fun runners. This is a 5.7km run and the participants should be minimum 12 years of age.
d) DHL corporate champions – This is a 10km run is open for companies and firms who are in existence for more than 1 year from the date of application. The company or an organization can register a team of 2 men and 1. A company can field up to 10 such teams for the run.
e) Senior citizen’s run – This category covers 4.2km and the participant’s age should be minimum 60 years of age.
f) Champions with disability – This category is for participants with disability, it is a 4.2km run and the minimum age requirement is 12 years.
Application Fees
For the World 10K and Open 10K run the fees is INR1000 for domestic applicants and USD45 for Overseas applicants. The application fees for DHL corporate champions it is INR5000 per team. The application for the Majja run is INR600 and USD25 for overseas applicants. For the senior citizen’s run and Champions with disability, its INR300 for domestic applicants and USD10 for overseas applicants.
Payment Modes
Cheque, Demand draft, Cash (Indian currency), credit card, debit card and net banking are accepted. Scratch cards which are available at the Nike outlets can also be used as a payment mode. A part of the money raised in this event is given to charity and it is believed that like last year this year too more money will be raised for charity.
Prize Money
For the World 10K the prize money ranges from USD 21,000 to USD 1000 and INR 2,50,000 to INR 30,000. The top overall finishers will receive USD 7,500 and for top 10 Indian finishers its INR 2,00,000. The winner medals and merit certificates will also be issued after the events.
