At last, Mobile Number Portability (MNP) has come to real in India. From January 2011 MNP has introduced in India.

What is MNP:


Mobile Number Portablity allows users to change mobile operator / mobile network (like Airtel, BSNL, Aircel, Idea, Hutch, Tata Docomo, Uninor, Videocon, Reliance) without changing their existing mobile number. For example if you are using Hutch and want to start using Docomo then no need to change your Hutch mobile number. This facility is applicaple for both GSM / CDMA & Postpaid / Prepaid.

As of now Airtel are have huge number of customers in India. But the competition is very huge with Docoma, Uninor, Hutch and so. To attract the users every mobile operators are providing call rates and SMS rates very cheap. So this MNP is the good thing for all mobile users. You can easily switch from one operator to another operator easily by following simple steps. So to keep the customers with us mobile operators should reduce the call cost with quality service and with good offers.

Send PORT "mobile number" to 1900

Mobile operator change - How much cost?


Maximum 19 Rs. Even some operators like BSNL doing this for free service.
It will give you an unique porting code from your existing carrier. This code to be mentioned in the application of the new mobile operator. With in 7 days from the date of application you will be switched from new mobile operator.

Tata Docomo offers 100MB free 3g data for six months and 1p/6sec calls for all new connections under MNP.
BSNL provides unlimited GPRS for first month and free talk time worth Rs.100. No MNP switching charges.
